About L.A. Family Law Center
A California family-law practice with a primary focus on prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
The firm represents clients who need to draft an agreement, independently review an agreement proposed by a fiancé, or negotiate terms through separate counsel. Each matter begins with the client's actual financial and personal circumstances rather than a standard form.
Marital agreements may involve more than identifying existing property. Depending on the client, the agreement may need to address:
- Income earned during marriage
- Business ownership and future business growth
- Real estate acquired before or during marriage
- Mortgage principal payments and property appreciation
- Retirement accounts and employment benefits
- Stock options, restricted stock units, and deferred compensation
- Separate-property contributions to jointly titled property
- Debts and financial obligations
- Gifts and inheritances
- Spousal support
- Estate-planning rights
- Confidentiality and dispute-resolution procedures
- Cross-border property and financial interests
- Fertility treatment and assisted-reproduction planning
The firm also represents clients in selected divorce and family-law matters. That litigation experience informs the firm's agreement practice. Provisions that appear simple when signed can become difficult to apply years later. The firm drafts with attention to definitions, documentation, tracing, timing, enforcement, and the practical effect of each provision.
L.A. Family Law Center developed a substantial assisted-reproduction practice before expanding its present focus on marital agreements. The firm has represented intended parents and other participants in hundreds of surrogacy matters involving gestational-carrier agreements, parental-rights proceedings, and related fertility arrangements. This background allows the firm to address family-building issues that many standard prenuptial agreements do not adequately consider.
The firm also provides selected estate-planning and escrow-account services. These services may be coordinated with marital agreements, assisted-reproduction arrangements, or other family-planning needs when appropriate.
The firm serves clients throughout California and works with clients who have financial or family connections outside the United States. Services are available in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
Our approach
Understand the financial structure
The firm first identifies the client's assets, debts, income, businesses, expected inheritances, real-property interests, and financial objectives.
Identify the material terms
Not every possible clause belongs in every agreement. The firm focuses on provisions that affect the client's actual rights and risks.
Draft for future application
Terms are written so that the parties, their attorneys, and a court can determine what the agreement requires if a dispute later arises.
Negotiate without unnecessary escalation
Prenuptial negotiations are personal. The firm advocates for the client while maintaining professional communication and avoiding unnecessary conflict.
Complete the process before the wedding
Clients are encouraged to begin early enough to allow proper disclosure, review, negotiation, and execution.
